Synopsis

Based on a true story, My Winter Tears follows Muzi, a quiet young boy from Newcastle whose life is forever changed after the tragic death of his older brother, Sipho. During a school holiday at their family home, the brothers wander to a sacred river believed by the community to carry both healing and spiritual power. What begins as an innocent childhood adventure turns into a nightmare when Sipho is taken in a mysterious and devastating river attack. Haunted by grief, guilt, and unanswered questions, Muzi grows up carrying the memory of his brother everywhere he goes. As years pass, the river becomes more than a place of tragedy — it becomes a spiritual connection between the two brothers. Through dreams, memories, and supernatural encounters, Muzi feels Sipho’s presence guiding him through pain, manhood, and healing. Torn between fear of the river and the need for closure.
