Synopsis
This is the first-ever documentary feature film on the world-famous author of The Story of an African Farm - feminist, political commentator and pacifist Olive Schreiner - and is an epic journey through her extraordinary life and work against the backdrop of her heartland, the Karoo. The film also explores how her life was inextricably linked to one of the most turbulent chapters in South African history - the suffering caused by the South African or Anglo Boer War, as well as World War I. Through weaving together archival material, readings from her letters and books, and key contributions from leading Schreiner experts and enthusiasts, a narrative portrait emerges of an exceptional woman who defied the conventions of her time — a writer, thinker, and activist whose fierce moral courage and commitment to justice, prescient views on race, gender and power still challenge and resonate today.
