Synopsis
"Call Me Miles follows an ordinary middle-class Afrikaans family confronted with extraordinary circumstances when their once-happy, curious child begins to struggle profoundly during adolescence. As puberty sets in, their child becomes increasingly distressed, battling self-harm, depression, and repeated suicide attempts while feeling trapped in a body that does not reflect who they truly are. The film traces Miles’ journey from childhood through their teenage years to eventual top surgery, the turning point that allows them to finally feel at home in their own skin. Along the way, we meet friends whose lives mirror Miles’ path in unexpected ways, including a childhood friend now living in Australia. Years later, Miles and Lawrence reunite as confident, openly transgender adults. Raw, intimate, and deeply human, Call Me Miles is a story of identity, resilience, and a family’s unwavering love in the face of pain, fear, and hope."
